AVP/Executive Director of Admissions Position Profile

ÌÒÉ«ÊÓÆµ is seeking an experienced, strategic enrollment leader to provide vision and direction for the university’s admissions efforts. Working collaboratively across the university, this leader will develop and advance a data-informed admissions strategy designed to achieve enrollment goals and attract and enroll a talented and diverse student body.

The successful candidate will bring a collaborative, forward-looking approach to recruitment and enrollment, using data to evaluate effectiveness, respond to changing student needs and guide the strategic use of resources. The role also provides leadership for the Admissions team while building strong partnerships across Enrollment Management, academic units and the broader university community.

  • Provide leadership in the planning, development, and administration of the Admissions department in a manner consistent with the mission of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓÆµ.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President for Enrollment Management, deans, faculty, and staff, develop, implement, and promote a yearly admissions plan that will achieve university enrollment goals.
  • Further a data-informed culture to shape strategic directions and make appropriate adjustments to an integrated admissions plan; regularly assess accuracy and effectiveness of recruitment activities and make appropriate adjustments so as to lead an effort that is proactive, strategic, and responsive to the changing needs of students.
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of recruitment materials to prospective undergraduate and graduate students, expanding the university's ability to attract, select and enroll an increasingly talented and diverse student body.
  • Provide regular reports, data analyses, and evaluation tools to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the colleges, the division, and other designated persons/units.
  • Work collaboratively and strategically with other units within the Division of Enrollment Management, particularly with the Office of Student Financial Aid; enhance working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Administer academic policy and university regulations that govern the process of recruitment and enrollment of students.
  • Lead a transparent and forward-looking budgeting process that projects clear outcomes for expenditures and evaluates achievements in the context of an environment in which strategic use of resources is important.
  • Stay current with issues and policies pertaining to the achievement of a diverse student body and play a leadership role in assisting the university in reaching its goals.
  • Provide supervision of unclassified and classified staff; oversee personnel administration and professional development.

Strengthen Recruitment and Yield Across Student Populations
Enhance ÌÒÉ«ÊÓÆµâ€™s ability to attract, engage, and enroll talented and diverse undergraduate and graduate students through innovative recruitment strategies, targeted outreach, compelling communications, and a seamless prospective-student experience. Evaluate recruitment activities and yield outcomes to focus resources on the strategies and populations with the greatest potential impact.

 

Build a Data-Informed Admissions Enterprise
Foster a culture in which enrollment decisions are grounded in timely, accurate, and actionable data. Leverage demographic trends, application and yield data, regional patterns, financial aid considerations, and funnel performance to inform recruitment strategies, enrollment forecasting, resource allocation, and continuous improvement.

 

Enhance the Prospective Student Experience
Examine the admissions journey from initial engagement through enrollment and identify opportunities to make the process more accessible, responsive, personalized, and student-centered. Streamline high-volume processes and technology-enabled workflows while maintaining a strong focus on communication, service, and relationship-building with students and families.

 

Deepen Institutional Collaboration and Alignment
Serve as a highly collaborative partner to deans, faculty, financial aid, marketing, athletics, student services, regional campuses, and university leadership. Build shared ownership of enrollment objectives and strengthen connections between admissions strategy and broader institutional priorities.

 

Optimize Organizational Structure, Talent, and Culture
Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing admissions organization capable of meeting the demands of a complex and evolving enrollment environment. Assess organizational structures, staffing models, professional development, and workload distribution while cultivating an inclusive, collaborative culture and supporting staff through periods of significant change.

 

Strategically Allocate Resources and Strengthen Accountability
Establish a transparent, outcomes-oriented approach to admissions budgeting and resource allocation. Connect investments in recruitment, technology, personnel, and communications to measurable enrollment objectives and regularly assess performance to ensure resources are deployed effectively.

 

Position ÌÒÉ«ÊÓÆµ for Changing Enrollment Conditions
Anticipate and respond proactively to demographic shifts, changing student behaviors, economic conditions, policy developments, and other external forces affecting higher education enrollment. Develop flexible strategies that allow the university to respond quickly while maintaining long-term focus on institutional goals.

 

Advance Access, Diversity, and Inclusion in Recruitment
Strengthen admissions practices and recruitment strategies that broaden access to ÌÒÉ«ÊÓÆµ and support the university’s commitment to attracting an increasingly diverse student population. Ensure that enrollment strategies are responsive to the changing composition and needs of prospective students and their families.

Master's degree in a related field. Seven years' experience in the management of admissions operations within higher education.

License/Certification:

Skill In:

  • Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
  • Negotiating and collaborating across campus departments including financial aid, academic units, marketing, athletics, and university leadership to align enrollment goals with institutional priorities
  • Recruiting, training, and retaining a multi-tiered staff (from entry-level recruiters to directors), preventing burnout during peak seasons, and cultivating an inclusive team culture
  • Restructuring teams, streamlining high-volume processing systems (CRMs, application reviews), and guiding staff through policy or technological transitions without disrupting operations

Ability To:

  • Read team dynamics, manage staff anxiety during high-stress cycles, and pivot strategies smoothly when external forces (such as demographic shifts, legislative changes, or economic dips) alter application projections
  • See both the macro picture (institutional brand, enrollment goals) and micro dependencies (CRM workflow bottlenecks, transcript processing latency) to understand how a friction point in one area impacts the entire funnel
  • Analyze demographic shifts, yield rates, regional trends, and financial aid distribution to shape enrollment strategy, forecast class composition, and optimize recruitment resources
